C'mon Guys, 'Tis the Season of Goodwill towards All Men, and all that, so what do YOU really want for Christmas? What hints have you dropped to your better half, and what will you perhaps buy for yourself, or even for wifey, that you can make good use of, hehe. We all know what the-viffer wants (careful now!), but what do YOU want for Christmas? Geoff, in God's Wonderful Region

I'm hoping for a tailstock die holder, several heavy hints to Siobhán, my better half. I've been watching RDG's prices on ebay gradually increase over the last few months and wish I'd bought when they were £19.95 they have now crept up to £29.50! Postage is nearly £6 too!!!
Alternatively, I suppose, I should really have a go at making the one I downloaded the drawings for, I think it was from Chris Heapy's site before it's unfortunate demise.
Incidently, does anyone know what happened to him? I sorely miss the adverts there.
Cheers
Brian, Sussex refugee in Norn' Iron!!!

Two weeks of back to back days in the workshop so I can see some progress.

I'll second that Jim - I barely see the inside of my workshop lately

Guys,
My number two daughter is giving me the "what do you want for Christmas" grief but she's zeroed in on what shape/type of piece of metal I want.
Actually I've found that far from relying on one's loved ones for something useful you've just got to go buy it yourself.
My treat this year was a cheap 800x80 reflector telescope from QVC. Yep! QVC and I blame the fact on there being nothing worth watching late one night.
Anyway, it's brilliant. I spent the other night freezing my nuts off cruising the mountains on the moon and it's amazing how fast the moon is overtaking us at up around times 120 magnification.
Being able to point it better is now on the list of to-do's and I've got all the kit I need to make it thanks to previous self indulgent Christmans presents.

GWRFan,
If you can hold the thing up and keep it VERY steady I'll see if I can spot anything missing from up here in Cheltenham.
However, you may need to wait until I've sorted pointing the thing properly first.

Was that what the_viffer wants or what the_viffer needs? What you want or what you need, I bet it's the same. You'll end up with sox and hankies like the rest of us, haha. ;D GW

No actually it is magnificently deficient in almost all areas for that. I think the Politically Correct Lawn Ornament inside the 'puter doesn't let me say what I really want!

You can tell me t-v, no one else will know, hahaha. I 'bought' myself some metal and other bits n' bobs, but the cat got out of the bag when the company 'phoned home to ask a question re my order. My other 'alf answered the 'phone, hahaha! I'll now have to buy her something nicer than perhaps I was going to. No wonder locos are referred to as 'she', they all need so much attention and cash spending on them, hahaha. Sorry if this isn't PC!

Hmm... What I want is Alyson Hannigan and a big pot of honey, what I want for the workshop is some S-type collets or a self-darkening welding helm, what I need is an unknown, what I'll get is probably socks...

Jack, SteveW Re telescope pointer jack My scope came with one and I must say I'd be stuffed without it. My problem was it needed aligning in daylight with a 1/4 mile+ clear view. Of course it was both dark and has been foggy of late. Equatorial mount and and a pitch adjustment loads better than it's got is the only way forward. Fine azimuth, although simple/crude works a treat. Where my scope was just under 90 quid inc P&P there was another on QVC a couple of days later at around 35 quid but it didn't have any verynear adjustments. As such this cheaper scope would have been worse than useless.
