Ah Gareth - you must let your acerbism show! ;D That's why I sent circlip to buy all the stuff I needed, rather than travel 7,000 miles to be treated like a leper like you! ;D

I'd watch the English DJ, you've been in that sweat shop too long. Gareth is NOT a leper, at least I assume so! JB

Talking of being a leper I did think about coughing/sneezing loudly and then talking about a recent mexican holiday as a way to get to the stalls / exhibits... Decided against it in case I was 'removed' from the show!

Simon, I note the lettering on the traction engine.
Were Great Northern Steam there as an exhibitor, and /or was that one of their models?
I ask as it has been rumoured that they are no longer in business. A rumour I will try to dispell, if it is untrue.

Alan, I can't answer your question, but I'm think that engine was for sale, unless my memory is playing tricks which is very possible !

Very sad.
I dont like to see any company close, especially one in "our" business.

If so they must have been the voluntary liquidators, the company went to new 'owners', the firm of accountants, in April. This is all assuming the info at Companies House is correct, certainly looks like a believable course of events, I only posted the last few entries.

I was astonished (well perhaps not) to see the posts about GNS being wound up after all the recent publicity about their idea of building a full size NER atlantic. This month's "Heritage Railway" has a big feature on them and the progress they have made on building the full size replica NER G5 0-4-4T - boiler well under way, frames cut, cylinders cast, wheels about to be cast (perhaps not now!) etc.
Another case of biting off more than they could chew, or just victims of the credit crunch?

It's neither, apparently, just a redundant part of the group being closed down GN Steam are still in business!

Iwas there all day on Friday did NOT see 1 badge, just the same as the previous 2 years. I'm beginning to think they were were a good idea but not catching on, pity really

I went on Saturday but I too didn't see any badges other than mine. Next year I will have the logo enlarged and printed onto a bright yellow t-shirt, with 'ace' written across the back. Should stick out.

I've only seen a couple of badges at shows. Met Ace and Tonytrans but that's all. Met Viffer at Ally Pally but that was pre badge days. In the perfect world of hindsight, perhaps they should have had a red background or similar colour? Stand out a bit better than grey. Ah well, back to the pink rose and pencil in the ear! Waggy.

Funnily enough, I left my badge on my coat whilst visiting the shops and someone saw it and asked what it was. Perhaps we are too much focussed on the bargains at the shows. Perhaps we are all a bit grey anyway.
I think Ace has the right solution - perhaps an enlarged logo on a brighter background glued to one of the wife's Cliff Richard CDs would be better - kill two birds with one stone?
Look forward to seeing a prototype.
