Hi I'm John, only joined yesterday this is all quite new to me, so bear with me if I get it wrong. I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience of re-motoring the above Unimat items? If so what sort of motor did you find and if possible where, any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi John,
Years ago, I got a couple of sheep-shearing motors (of all things!) from the PEATOL lathes chap at an ME Exhibitbion for re-motoring a unimat 3. (one for the lathe itself, and one for the milling attachment). They proved excellent, and with the addition of a variable resistor for a few pence, I got variable speed as well... the motor itself was 180V DC, with a little box of tricks on the side so it took 240V AC
it was....
FRACMO, Hastings, England Frame: PM45 I.W.O. R2096 DC Volts 180 RPM 2500 AMPS 0.7 W.O. 90 Continuously Rated
It was a job well worth doing. Although he probably won't have the same motors kicking around, it may well be worth a phone call to him to see what he would suggest.
PM me if you want some pictures.
Regards
Giles
