I am happy that this discussion has happened. I appreciate the points made and accept that - for use in the UK - stainless steel is not acceptable. What I do not understand is why - and with that I am not going to take the subject any further.
For reasons mentioned in an earlier email, and as it is unlikely that the Cramptons will see much - if any - running in the UK I will probably go by the Belgian code and 316L for their boilers.
The earlier mentioned steel boiler for the Sweet Pea will now go to scrap - an all copper experimental Yarrow-style design is now in hand for that set of frames.
