Well done "Ozzie", that lot is TRULY MODEL ENGINEERING', you are a man in my club, " make it" dont buy it, i also "never" buy anything if i can make it. Many years ago when i worked in DONCASTER plant an old guyi was sent to work with, who was also a model engineer told me off when i said i was going to send for some castings for an engine i was building,(just starting),,dont make them "buggers" any richer than they are lad,get off your backside and make em! ! . after much discusing how, i had a go,did as he said beged borrowed and stole some scrap and got stuck in, as he said.. Well i finnished the loco,Bantam Cock, still got it, (but it needs a new boiler), if the good lord grants me enough time i will make one.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK OZZIE

Sorry, this is going back a bit. I have always screwed crossheads on to piston rods, counterbore the crosshead boss so that the thread is not showing, then pin with taper pin or what have you. I leave the crosshead guide bar surfaces oversize and then set the rod up on a veeblock to machine them to 10 thou undersize, they are then in line with the rod. On assembly a 10 thou bronze shim is fitted each side turned over each end to that it is held in place. If it ever wears out, which I doubt, if past experience is anything to go by just fit new shims. I usually set the length at the piston end, screwed, loctited, and a screw fitted half in rod, half in piston. Excellent work, regards Ian

Thanks Shawki, Im feeling better but still busy.
steammadman, Thanks for looking in. Will pray for your longevety to have time to make a boiler. As far as making everything, that's half the fun, besides necessity ids the mother of invention as they say.
drjohn, so glad you stopped by. Thanks for the compliment. means a lot.
