... on Edwin. After laying fallow for a couple of years (to let the stresses out ) work has resumed on Edwin. Cranks made, fitted and quartered, siderods made & fitted. Really pleased with the quartering - drilled both rods together and it will roll down a slightly inclined board with no tight spots at all. Started on the return cranks today.

G'day Tel,
Are you building the Walschearts version or slip eccentric model?
Are the wheels sprung?
Regards, Ian

The Walschearts mate - no springing, the axles ride in bushes put into 'oles in the frames

Thanks Tel.
You are tempting me. I must get all the back issues of AME that cover Edwin, even just for a read and learn.
Your Edwin looks good BTW.
My "coffee percolator" is on hold as I build a mini traction engine, No! not the "Minnie", just my own design. Single double acting oscillator with the big wheels about 60mm diameter from 65mm Al bar. The engine part works a treat on air and I hope get on to the boiler this weekend. the boiler will be the prototype for the coffee whatsit.
Regards, Ian

Edwin as he/she/it appeared on the cover of AME back in May/June 2003. Now, has anyone got the Nov/Dec 03 issue they can scan the Edwin article from for me? I had it, lost it, bought a back issue, lost that ....

Regards, Ian Brian Wilson has produced a book on building Edwin and several variations. Called "Steam Trains In Your Garden" The layout is very similar to Kozo Hiraoka's book's but with plenty of colour. He can also provide castings and laser cut components but they can easily be built without The book available from AME Retail and from Camden Books in the UK. Lee
