I have very luckily acquired the cylinder + steam/valve chest + piston etc. already machined and assembled (used previously). Need now to sort out the lubricator and pipe and connecting this pipe to the steam chest.
The adaptor already fitted is 3/16 x 32 thread (on the outside of the steam chest where the lubricator pipe is attached). I have made enquiries (including at Sandown Park yesterday) about where to get a 3/16 x 32 union nut and the answer universally seems to suggest these are "as common as rocking horse manure" etc.
The Project loco book shows the adaptor as 3/16 x 40.
I could buy a 3/16 x 32 tap to make my own, but if union nuts with this size and thread combination are not readily available, wonder if there is there some reason that I am missing about why not?
I am loathe to try removing the existing adaptor and make a new one, as it is well and truly fixed to the steam chest (possibly soldered/permanent threadlock stuff) – my only attempt at unscrewing it has “rounded” some of the hex edges on the (brass and therefore soft) nut.
All suggestions/advice gladly welcomed!

Have now made one-off union nut with 3/16 x 32 tap set that arrived today in post - so all is well.
