Found a company at the Thornbury exhibition who said they could deliver in a week TIG welded or silver soldered?

Hi - Yes, a very valid question. No problem with TIG welding for the longitudinal seams but what method will be used for the boiler tubes and bushes? Regards Reg

The Maxitrak booklet (I think it's there's anyway) makes a not about welds being inspected for cracks. My interpretation is that I need to more vigiliant about the welds than with a steel boiler or comparable age!

I am building up my browny points again and am decorating the house, haveing spent a lot of dosh on boiler and castings. But on a very and I mean very cursory inspection all longitudinal seams a welded and bushes silver soldered and tapped. All CE marked plus paperwork, you name it. Better than being told after a 8 month wait oh will be the same again then I would suspect, a bit more again. Are these people like jobbing builders take on as much as poss and hope one will get finished and bring in some cash!! .When I had my Antique restoration business we would rather turn work down than get into this situation. They get the reputation of do not bother with them you will never get it done. Will keep everyone posted (once the emulsion and paint have dried and have not missed that tiny little bit over there). Bob ;D

I believe that the Boilers that Maxitrak sell are made by a guy called Marco. I have seen his work first hand. He is fully coded up to do this type of welding. Anyone trying it at home without the knowledge of back purging and the right gas to use. The setting of of the TIG welder in the first place would challenge most. All the weld preps are different from the traditional. In my opinion it would be a fool to try it. And could not present the correct paper work to get it passed any boiler inspector worth his or her salt.

I absolutely agree with you nonort (strange name) the company who made this boiler makes hundreds of the big ones for industry. so this was a tiny little job for them, think took around 2 days. on and off and think one of the guyes took it on as a hobby job. All fully CE you name it. AND I was quoted a 1.5 years delivery from a particular boiler maker. Someone in the west country should read this. Bob

Any news about the delivery of this "quickly" made boiler or was it old stock?

Hi quil Escaped into the workshop for a few mins, you could be correct as the dates on the paperwork are a few months ago, Once I have completed this dreaded decoration lark, now down to the middle floor, will investigate further but certainly all looks good. Bob

My interpretation is that I need to more vigiliant about the welds than with a steel boiler or comparable age! I'm still looking for this. We have in our possession a document from Maxitrak which clearly states something about the welds being crack inspected at hydraulic tests. Its not the PDF thats on the website...must look harder.

I bought a whistle from Kim at Hot-Coals recently and he showed me the B1's in progress. I have used one of his suppliers and I am sure quality will not be a problem.
It is also nice to see a model engineering business start in this part of the world - the rest are so far away.
The workshops are well worth a visit - part of a splendid craft centre in the lovely Usk Valley - coffee and cake very nice indeed.
Pete.

I have worked with Marco & he is independent of Maxitrak. His Co is specialist, dealing with thin non ferrous TIG welding to MoD standard & above. His first breack into this world was met with dissaproval as the build could not be seen. As a boiler inspector I sent back a MoKent boiler size requesting internal proof of build. After two or three visits over the past 2 yrs he & his crew have progressed to producing some of the top quality pressure genorators I've seen. Try his site & deal direct.
