My locos lie om their side on a soft bed of foam and a couple of old duvets. D Gosh David, you must have a lot of old duvets!

Turnover StandThe angle brackets are 6mm thick, supported by 25 mm sq columns of Hiduminium alloy, so it could probably support the odd armoured car... I hope this thread hasn't taken a turn for the wurst? I suppose it's just a matter of degree as this diversion hasn't a pivotal role in the loco completion. John

Hi John
I do see the need for a turnover stand, in fact, I ordered such a stand while at the 'Midlands' show this year to help me with my build. What worries me about turning the loc with a boiler attached is the amount of weight that isn't balanced and that the attachment of the boiler to the frame isn't up to dealing with this weight distribution. It's not a criticism of your design, it's for all loco's with a boiler fitted. My head just won't accept that this is safe.
Please don't think that this excellent thread is making a turn for the worse, that was not my intention sir...
Kind regards
Pete

One handrail stanchion short
I bought 20 x 2 1/2" Gauge stanchions, and have lost five of them somewhere in my workshop, so I'm one short and can't complete the blinkers without it. Trouble is, I can't remember where I got them from and my searches reveal nothing! Anyone got one please or can point me in the right direction? I bought some from EKP yesterday, but they are HUGE even though they purport to be 3 1/2" Gauge. They might diminish when painted black but they ain't good enough... For God's sake John you are fawning over this ghastly British railway lots of wheels bloody great monstrosity, when you could have built a Midland Compound with exquisite beauty or a Princess Royal Pacific, a Claughton perhaps or even developed into the mysterious East where they have things called A1, A2, A3, A4s all very gorgeous but the pinnacle was Mallard. So, to save your fragile loco holder gismo, let me suggest a nice little, well, what could it be, we have so many lovely Midland examples!! D

John WP_20181205_17_30_06_Pro by inkaboat, on Flickr Apologies if you have already covered this in your thread which I have not read in detail but I am pretty sure the surface of the running board should be black.
A horse has blinkers (some racehorses and many carthorses) the purpose of which is to make them look forward and not to be distracted by things at the periphery of their vision. A railway locomotive tends to have smoke deflectors.

Flap OverI took the plunge - literally- and made a stanchion form tool from gauge plate and the job took less than an hour. It's not perfect, as it doesn't quite match the original in the picture, but black is such a slimming colour! WP_20181206_15_12_36_Pro - Copy by inkaboat, on Flickr That's better! Well, it will be after I've given the blinkers a topcoat! Jock, thanks for your input but I'm keeping the boards green for the time being. John WP_20181206_15_22_25_Pro by inkaboat, on Flickr

Probably a bit late now, but was it Polly Models? They do a 2 1/2" gauge size for 1/16" rod with a M2 thread. Your form tool produced copy looks pretty good though Regards, Dan
