Just read the ME: There are going to be a lot of model engineers very unhappy with Magicalla !
Just think of those who have paid for their tickets in advance and the numbers of coaches that have been provisionally booked by clubs. That is not to even think of our overseas visitors who have probably already spent out on their air fares, hotels etc.
They will have to do something really impressive if they are going to save this show.

I think you are right Jo. Many of our fellow model engineers from across in the USA & Canada may well have made all their winter holiday arrangements to incorporate the show, now this! I think reading between the lines of the statement in encapsulates what has been said in this thread, with the possible exception to the location, which will always be up for debate.

I wonder if there any clubs around the Olympia area who may be having a new year steam up who may wish to consider opening their doors to our overseas friends.....
At Guildford we normally do Boxing Day, rather than new year.

Andy it says: "Owing to circumstances beyond our control it has been necessary to postpone the Model Engineering Exhibition until after the new year. Unfortunately this year Christmas and New Year period has presented difficulties with staffing which meant that we could not guarantee our usual high standards. So watch this space for new details. As the event will now be in 2007, this will be the 100th year of the exhibition. This delay will be welcomed by readers who have told us that they would prefer to see the event at a different time of the year, to avoid clashing with family and other occasions, not to mention the difficulties of travel at that time from some parts of the country, and especially overseas. This move is being especially welcomed by the model engineering trade which also has great difficulty in finding staff to work over the period between Christmas and new year, and which is costly in terms of accommodation and so on. We anticipate that more clubs will also now be able to take part. Negotiations are already advanced to secure another great venue. We will revise the exhibition details shortly. <a bit about getting refunds> The organisers apologize for any inconvenience this change causes. However we can now get on with producing the sort of event that we would all like to see, and look forward to the best one yet in its 100th year." Jo

Our club holds a 'fun day' for members & friends only (ie. No Public Passengers) on the 27th December each year. Deemed to be a great way to blow away yhe cobwebs of Christmas and return to a sensible pastime. That's the Staines Society in case anyone is not sure where I toot my whistle from! We will be there from 10-30 ish onwards until we either have had enough or the weather sends us home.
