I've just received the latest catalogue from Camden books - and they show a book entitled "Steam Locomotive Design: Data and Formulae" by Phillipson. The blurb says it was first published in 1936 and that Chapter 10, "includes quite a lot of information on conjugated valve gears and Caprotti and other poppet or rotary valve gears." The very small illustration in the catalogue shows a detailed cross section that appears to be Caprotti - theer appear to be a good selection of drawings as well as tables and text. I've not seen the book, but at only £12.95 it might be worth getting to see what information it contains. From the title and the rest of the blurb it appears to be quite technical - which is probably what you need if you're planning to build a model. Camden are at: www.camdenmin.co.uk - (usual disclaimer) Malcolm

I have that book, it's a very good read. I've just checked, and yes chapter 10 does talk about Caprotti Valve Gear, but there's nothing to help you design from it.
