Hi guys,
Where are you buying your boiler tube and plate from? Only places I've found so far is industrial companies selling big quantities!
Thanks
Andy.

Proteus Fittings quoted me for a length of barrel tube to the length I wanted, and BrownMac will supply flamecut plates to your sizes.

I would check that TIG is acceptable.
When I last made a steel boiler, it had to be stick weld and nothing else.

Don't see why it would be a problem, they use it for welding copper boilers!
Any1 shed more info on this?

There is nothing in the green book that prohibits TIG however it will be up to the boiler inspector. Because he will have to be satisfied regarding materials used and the preparation of the joints before welding and the adequacy of the welds. It's para 7.1 i and also 7.4 e. that refer.

With respect to TIG welding, the requirement for metal cleanliness is much more stringent that that for stick as there's no agents within the melt to assist with fusion. Because the shield is gas rather than a "molten powder" the likelihood of inclusions should also be much less. In short I'd have thought TIG superior to either stick or MIG. Either way though, isn't proof of material specs required for both construction metal and weld metal. At least with TIG you can always collect the small flat tails of material tabs for demonstration that you've used the correct weld metal.
