Neat work gugger - how did you work out the hole sizes - trial and error?!

Bill Carter did something similar, and there was a write up on his engine in ME. Not sure if it mentioned how to work out the amount of 'ole to metal though.
Gugger. irrespective of how you worked out the holes, how did you make them? Punch, drill + file, buy large box of assorted 'oles and fit 'em, or what?
One minor point that may be helpful, a source of springy, but not exactly spring steel is the banding used for wrapping round boxes. Not the plastic stuff, obviously.

To determine the size of holes and slots was more a case of trial then error. The work was done by drilling and milling.
