Thanks ever so much Brian,
There are just so many things to look at and find, but just not enough hours in the day to do it, yet another reason for having a simp, who could even live in the car and be handy for the odd visit to the track, or drop in to one when on holiday. She could even be linked up to a small generator with wheels off the ground, and provide power for some lights and music system at the camp. Just as the backwoods men must have powered their saws and pumps etc with theirs.
I tried again to explain to a model magazine editor that it was not an exact copy down to the last rivet hidden under the steps plate like my 517, but a total fun engine, that you can paint any colour, put a roof on, wooden, slates, for a mid Wales one, rusty corrugated iron, canvas etc. Dress her up as a Toby, ( I have a face for anyone who would like one from my mould ) I am making one this lunchtime for a friend in Exeter. Total fun, and easy to build and even the bolts dont have to match, and he was still not convinced.
My pun, you need a Myford Super 7, a Boxford vm30, all the tools, a large bench and a sizeable workshop to house them in then you can start on a 'standard' ten year project, that will cost you 'four' grand for the lazer cut parts. And 'four six oor' more months of the year you hide while it gets assembled!!
Right, I had a look through the web site, and was very happy to see the models, and find yet another prototype, must do one with a coat hook!
Its an engine for everyone, just a short bit of track in the back yard, and you, and your children can have hours of fun building and playing with it. She could also do some serious work once we can get the valves, and cylinder size ratio worked out, I am aiming at pulling about 3 people at a good pace.
Thank you again Brian.
David.

Dear all, it is now getting towards the end of the wettest July ever, and after all my sincear thoughts to all the people caught up in the floods, here is the update. More parts get made almost every day, but I am still waiting for the new valve gear drawings, this time with a straight link. The boiler is progressing with two flanged plates all drilled and ready for the tubes which are to length and ends cleaned, that was a job helped in some part by the gardening being canciled.
Now another idea has been to try a gas engine so a R & B drawing was sent for from Bruce En and reduced in size to fit the SIMP frame. Modern photo copiers are wonderful things. Lots of parts litter various parts of the loft and a cooling system for the single cylinder is next on the list, Monday saw the flywheel being turned. So all exciting stuff.
All the best.
David.
