Hi Jordan
Do you need the build articles?.. I'm not certain what I may have but remember seeing drawings for the Horwich crab being shared on opposite sides of the pages for Doncaster in LLAS. If so I guess the words must be there too, doubt it's a full set but if some are there I'm happy to try and scan/copy to send direct to your e-mail if it helps.
Regards
Pete

Other than Splitting the frames a couple of weeks ago to correct a large number of errors in the location or lack of Horn keep mountings, Cylinder mounting holes and running board supports nothing much else has happened to the crab But I am on the look out for anyone who has Patterns for the Driving wheels and also the Cylinders. I really dont wish to pay through the nose for castings from that well known supplier when quality is an issue

Jordan The trouble with this model engineering hobby is promiscuity. It is possible to completely love three or four at the same time. I have always loved the Crab or ‘Horwich Mogul’ to use the correct appellation. I even have a set of frames for one that I started in about 1974 but unfortunately in ‘O’ gauge!! (And I still have them.) It is just impossible to build all of them, Johnson Single, Compound, Crab and an Aspinal!! As mentioned previously I have the full write-up and drawings from LLAS that I can email you. I also have the Loco profiles by David Hunt et al that I am happy to lend to you and I mean lend. If I mentioned a desire to build one it would end in divorce (which might provide more time in the workshop of course) but then might be costly!!! If you are going to Gilling in May I will bring it. Wish I had another thirty years to live. Cheers David PS A photo jus t to tempt you!

Hi midland i have sent you a PM.
The crab is staying for the long term and if i get a couple of hours next week it will be bolted to the bed of the miller and the missing holes in the frames drilled up . I am going to have to research the correct positions of the Lifting eyes at the front end as the drawings do not show these at all.

I am going to have to research the correct positions of the Lifting eyes at the front end as the drawings do not show these at all. When built, the Crabs didn't have lifting holes, they were added as the engines went through the shops. Some still didn't have the holes when withdrawn by BR. After the first 100 engines had been built, the frames were deepened at the front end. Don's drawings show the original design, so bear this in mind when choosing a number for your engine! An invaluable reference is 'LMS Locomotive Profiles no.2 - The Horwich Moguls' which contains the works arrangement drawings. It's been out of print for a while, but you might be able to track down a copy somewhere.
