I have bitten the bullet and got hold of 1Kg of crystals (£5) from the local health food shop - however the guy who sold it had no idea of the required dilution percentage. As I believe some of you use Citric Acid as a pickle can you tell me the percentage mix I need as a pickling solution - ideally the weight of crystals and the amount of water I need and how long should I keep the bits in the pickle.
Thanks again

It is not critical Q. the commercial salts I use say 50 to 100g per litre but to be frank I work on a dessert spoonful in a cup and a couple of cups to a bucket. Warming the solution speeds things up - crock pots at car boot sales are handy and cheap Do let the piece cool before you dunk it in the pickle though - citric isn't going to hurt you but boiling pickle spurting out of boiler tubes all over your hand will make you jump I promise. How long is a piece of string ? anything from 5 minutes to overnight depending on temperature and whether I have larded the flux on with a shovel. The flux goes brown and glass like after heating and it is pretty obvious when it has all gone - nice shiny copper too! Andy
