The two Wild Swan books are:
ISBN 978 1 905184 46 0 This the main one with all the drawings.
ISBN 978 1 905184 62 0 A photo supplement with some drawings.
Both "must have" books. The drawings are scaled to very nearly 1mm/inch, very useful for detailing.
Waggy.

Do you have any contact information for the NRM? I live across the pond. Ben - where did you get the above picture from? Thanks.

I just googled "Sir William A. Stanier F.R.S." and hit the images button. Hey presto!! I am repeatedly amazed by the amount of people who don't try google first and foremost. Cheers Ben

They have a half decent website, google will find it. There is also the lists of all the drawings they hold, or at list the ones they've had time to list so far!

Perhaps the right question to ask is - does anyone know if Michael Breeze or anyone else offers castings for the Sir William A. Stanier F.R.S. locomotive pony truck in 5" gauge?
With reference to Google - Google, Yahoo & Bing were used extensively in the preliminary search and somehow I never came across that particular photo - although I must have a hundred Duchess photos that were downloaded from the internet. Yes, I know that the "A" stands for Arthur, and I also know that he was a "Fellow of the Royal Society - F.R.S."
One issue with these "search engines" that I would like to point out is that when you use them they plant search cookies in your computer that monitor your computer usage, websites visited, etc. I was told that Google is the worst of them in that regard. You may have a stricter control of them in the UK, but in the US, anyone who uses them becomes a moving target.

To the best of my knowledge only the bits for the 'standard' Duchess' are avaliable

Hello all---If it's of any help I use Kaspersky which has both an automatic and manual facility to remove cookies at the end of your session ie}--- when closing down.. Whilst researching a source of information for me to design my 5" Great Bear ( Grand-Daddy to the Duchess and others, maybe ?)..I found the Management and staff at the NRM extremely helpful and accommodating.... Here's their contact details and it's the Library dept. that you'll need to talk with...Good luck with your research >>>>>>>>>>>>> www.nrm.org.uk/PlanaVisit/contactus.aspx ................

Google can also be used to search a particular website where the search function may not be too good. I've never used ours, if it was bad and I wanted to find my engine, I would enter into the google search box
Manning Wardle site:modeleng.proboards.com
Adding on that 'site' bit limits the search to just the web address you enter, without the 'www'.
Anyway, nothing to do with the best engine ever to grace British rails....

As a small boy I has a Hornby 00 "Duchess of Athol" It was originaly on a 3 rail system, when I upgraded to a 2 rail system dad had the loco converted. It was a diecast body unlike the more modern Hornby locos. I wish I knew where it went to

You may have a stricter control of them in the UK, but in the US, anyone who uses them becomes a moving target. 99% of websites use cookies, this one included. It's how you're able to navigate around the forum without needing to log in after each and every new page you click on. It wouldn't surprise me if this forum doesn't pay close attention to where you've come from and where you're going, too. You really shouldn't let your worry about cookies affect your usage of search engines. Everything you do is tracked by your ISP anyway, it's unavoidable. No reason to avoid the best search tool ever conceived on the basis that they might pay attention to what you're doing

Dumb Thought,
Would/Could a rebuilt MN or Britannia trailing truck be amended to work, they do look similar

Waggy - I received the two Wild Swan books that you recommended today - they are both gold mines of information! Thanks for the help. I believe that the two books contain everything that the NRM has on the Duchess.
If anyone happens to see a 5" gauge Duchess modeled in the William A Stanier 46256 or The City Of Salford 46257, could you ask them what they did for a pony truck? It looks as if I may have to have a casting made as in the prototype - something that I woould rather not get involved with.
Thanks.

You're most welcome, glad to be of help.
I don't know of any models of the last two, in any scale let alone 5". Perhaps fabrication is the answer using the drawings and photo's in the book?
Good luck,
Waggy.

You could always work with Blackgates...they *might* be interested in working with you to produce a casting they can add to the listings

Ha! I came on here looking for advice on injectors for a 5" Duchess.. My late father built a 5" Sir William A Stanier - he built it from a combination of works drawings and his own scaled from photos - he might have used Breeze drawings for parts of it too - not sure, but his best mate is building City Of Lancaster to Breeze's drawings and they were always discussing it... he died before it was fully finished - it was 90% there, so I had it assembled and completed - it's a stunning looking loco but the injectors that were bought 25 years ago keep failing despite thorough cleaning... So - what injectors are the best available?
