Hi Michael Thanks for sharing this video... I have it in my collection but have just spent the last enjoyable hour watching it again as it's one of my favorites especially before Roland bolts on those horrid smoke deflectors... It's a good example of how good 4472 is when compared to other loco's as pointed out by the crews used to driving other designs. It's also the video where Roland points out his modifications, some that others say are the reason why she's in such bad shape today.....I'll leave that debate to others more knowledgeable than myself.... Pete

I find it fascinating that 4472 has carved such a unique niche in history, truly a magic moment. Being brought up in Potters Bar one knew about Gresley Pacifics as they kept dashing by, especially for an 8 year boy. But imagine 20 years later being sent to Chicago to the US parent to learn the ways of the corporation and taking a stroll to Union Station I found 4472 parked there. This was the US trip! Here a little English boy in Chicago was able to see the 4472 and no-one was there. I could touch it, feel the rods and, well enough of the emote!! That is how I followed it (her) on her travels, had her stopped at Procor and eventually rode the foot plate from Buffalo to Chicago on the way to the Ill fated San Francisco episode. I still have a lamp I nicked from the ensemble. Pegler made her famous of course. Still love the Gresley Pacifics even if Midland Compounds are easier to get into the car!”!! D
