Hi. I am proposing to build a boiler for my 7 1/4' Highlander. I am using the Martin Evans boiler design (Mk3 !) as a basis, since he states that the design, which is for copper construction, could equally well be built in steel. I have revised the boiler design to standards set out in the AMBC code book. All work on this project has been done in consultation with the Club boiler inspector, and he is in agreement with things so far. But, he does not feel qualified to check my calculations on material scantlings, shell thickness and stay diameters etc. Is there anywhere that I could get this all checked over, preferably without spending a small fortune.. Tom.

Doesn't the steel version of the code address these details the same as the AMBSC Code Part 1 for copper boilers? Brian PS Yes Part 2 of the code addresses all design and construction requirements for steel boilers see www.aals.asn.au/AMBSC/AMBSC_Code2.htm

Yes, the code does address these matters, and I have been working to these. But, our club boilers inspector says that he is not confident to check my calculations for material scantlings, although he is satisfied with the overall design. So, I just need someone suitably qualified to approve, or otherwise, my sums. Tom.

There is a widely tried and tested excel spreadsheet which originated from a certain professional boiler maker. Its easy to use and gives you all the information you need. Im new on this forum but if you can PM me I will gladly send it to you. My inspectors and others who know of it have never questioned the data obtained from it.
