I found this just now and thought it rather helpful. More my level of engineering at present, easy to listen to, not to technical and well explained. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRdTPNApfukMaybe some of you know this chap and considering the present thread on the state of the hobby, its quite apt. I subscribed....and its free.

At least he is interested. Age not an issue but I enjoy his description.
May not be the only way to do things but video is good. Its just the small things that add up.

Don't you thinks its good, but also to have the courage to publish videos on the subject, even if he is twelve, or fourteen?
I think has review comments are ok too.
Many people, even youngies are actually scared of a lathe I think. Yes they can be very dangerous but starting doing simple tasks, even turning metal into swraf is the best way to learn, reading books only goes so far and we learn from our mistakes.

Sharing experience and hence knowledge can only be a good thing.
The more basic it is the better for me in actual fact.
If someone could do a tutorial on machining a Juliet cylinder on a Myford ML7 I would be rather pleased!
Pete.

Yeah he's building a B1, he was at Harrogate this year on the York stand with his CNC mill knocking out Buffer heads at an amazing rate.
Good to watch and very easy to understand, a credit to him.
Andrew.

What a precocious little fart but what balls and he knows his stuff. I am a fan!!! Look at www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mr+crispin+96Jealously must be one of the greatest of sins but I wish I knew what he knows!! 18 years old and a Rolls Royce apprentice. On the other hand Einstein did his theory of relatively when in his twenties so there is inspiration, and we brits have discovered many items that we failed to develop and which the japs exploited so I say BRAVO to this young lad! £10 in the box for him. Midland.
Is in not good that he and maybe other like him are actually interested in our hobby.
I'm midlife but quite happy to take on this type of tutorial. Seeing and doing is just a little easier than reading and it all goes together to fill the knowledge gap.

hi hayden,
many years ago a very senior member of the Isle of Wight club built a fantastic fullsize steam launch. he had spent most of his career in the merchant navy on the engineering side before becoming a lecturer at the local Tech College.
one of the large Stuart Turner engines was used as the engine.
one evening after a club night when we were in the 'Railway Tavern' he said he couldnt understand why lead varied and increased with Stephensons valve gear. so i split a bear mat and drew it all out for him.
i dont think i was 'precocious' to use David's term (!) and had an extra pint bought for me for my explanation! i wasnt quite as young as the youtube poster when i split the bear mat but i copied a drawing i had done when i was at his age.
cheers, julian

Julian.
The manner in which the concept is presented is quite important. Obviously you have the gift of the gab as we say.
You could become a politician.

I have only just realised. This chap is a winner of Keith Fenner's "What's in Your Box" give away, I thought the name sounded familiar. Good to see he's putting it to good use!
