Hi all, Hope yopu all had a good and productive Christmas, Does anybody know where i can get one of those measuring tapes about a metre(3 feet) long with all the black and white marks on you see on the TV sometimes, The ones you stick on an item to be photographed so you have a reference for size, Looking to take some photos of parts of full size, and would like to get one of these for refernece.

Hi Nigel
I can't help with a supplier but these things are simple to make.... we did a film some years ago that involved an Indian train which we had to make a model off in 1/3rd scale... We made up our own stick with black and white stripes every 6 inches on a yard stick. Took hundreds of photo's of the train in Mumbia using the stick for most pictures...be sure not to take pictures at an angle, take them as square on as possible..
cheers
Pete

How about using a length of small black chain, painting a link white at the required intervals. It would fit in your pocket and would be useful on curved parts as well. Just a thought. Regards John.

Can't you just photo copy a 6" steel ruler on to a sticky label? Somewhere I've got A4 sized pages that are a load of sticky labels aimed at being address labels. A bit of careful creation of sized table boxes in your favourite word processor would be another approach and easier to step/repeat onto sticky label media. You could also build the table using a scanned/scaled image of your 6" ruler. You could include any copyright or similar legend. Edit: just re-read the problem so A4 stickies are too small. Plan B generally includes Screwfix along the line somewhere so... How about a metre steel ruler? at just eight quid. Maybe add some magnets.
