Can anyone advise me a place that may sell these. Seems that 4mm ID is common but my mechanical lubricator has 1/8th on hardened shaft.
Not much down here in imperial.

You could use a piece of 4mm Silver Steel, drill and ream 1/8" then part off, make red hot and quench. That could be slipped over your 1/8" shaft with permanent Loctite. It wouldn't take much longer than I took to write this. That's the way I made my bearing sleeves for the motion work.

Yes good idea.
I cannot disassemble the lubricator, tried that and thankfully the bearing is the actuator one.
It functions at slow speed but once she is motoring it does not index the needles. Its more the bearing not gripping than the shaft being worn me thinks.

Someone has located some 1/8th ones in Dunedin, NZ. A model engineer will rat out the most devilish of things.

Glad to hear you have found some Hayden. I got my 1/8" roller clutches fron ArcEuro, but they are a std item (rc-02), I appreciate NZ has adopted metric to a greater extent but I would have thought that any decent bearing supply business could have got you them with the part number. You may have had a bit more of a wait, that is all. Chris

We are lucky that a few small traders in NZ still have the personal touch.Not so much what you know, but who you know. We also tend to be a bit mean in NZ at throwing stuff away so there are plenty of things here still imperial. working for a University we get equipment from all over the world, some of it is even Japanese supplied to the American market and is US imperial sizes, UNF and UNC threads etc. still plenty of old British Leyland Cars on the road here too.

Just a point of interest 1/8th clutches have 3 elliptical rollers in them the 4mm ones have 4 in them both types when this small have nylon/plastic cages get up to 6mm and they become steel. To get the best from these little devils you need to make sure that the housing is to the right spec as the clutches need to be crushed. If the handle of the clutch can be moved in line with the shaft i,e right angles to the drive after fitting it usually shows that the bearing has not been crushed enough. fitting these devices with loctite is a no no as it does not crush the cage to the required dimension. Before condemning the old clutch give it a through clean as muck get behind the activating leaves stopping the elliptical roller flexing. If you have access to a ultra sonic bath use that you will be amazed how much c**p comes out in industry these bearings are rarely lubricated.

These one way clutches do tend to malfunction when used on short reciprocating movements - especially if over lubricated. Try washing out the clutches with a blast of WD40 - then don't overfill the lubricator tank. Steam oil is thick enough to prevent the rollers gripping before they reach the end of their short stroke of movement.

Guess a little bath in non petroleum based fluid ( alcohol) would help to rid the rollers of any contamination.
