While hiding from the heat of the day, I just remade my cutting speed tables into a PDF; the old ones were getting faded and oil splattered, so a fresh print out will be useful. Figured I'd make them available to others, should anyone be interested: m-e.venomousrose.com/downloads/cutting_speeds.pdf

A very handy set of tables, well set out. Apart - when I was 'on the tools' in the 1960's, for machining / drilling mild steel we used the very simple speed = 280/diameter(in inches)

Apart - when I was 'on the tools' in the 1960's, for machining / drilling mild steel we used the very simple speed = 280/diameter(in inches) Interesting, it seems that's a bit slower for drilling/milling, and a bit faster for turning; somewhat of a mid-point so that there's less to remember.
