Hi,
I have posted for a few years as Dave22fair. The email address had to be changed due to the ISP shutting down the old one and I don't think I updated the details on MECH. I have now lost the login detail on my laptop due to a maintenance issue, but am unable to login again as I seem to need the old scrap email address for the process. I have registered again under this username. How do I go about getting back into my old username profile?
Many thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, If you are able to remember your old password, I think you do not need your old email to work for the forums to work for you. In the login screen ( www.proboards.com/login ) on the "email" field you type your old email and enter your password on the other field. If login succeeds then you should be able to change your email on your profile settings. Otherwise, I think only an administrator member can give you a temporary password to allow you in. Current active administrators are Tel and Andy Clark . You may want to send them a private message to solve your issue. This forums definitely need at least a couple more administrators. One of the old admins passed away two years ago. If we do not add more admins to this forum, it is at risk of becoming an orphan that nobody cares about.

A forum can perfectly exist without moderation if members are self moderated. However, forum administrators are required in all cases to solve member issues and to eventually apply updates. I agree that this is unavoidable.

I agree that this is unavoidable. Yes, there are some functions of the forum framework needing a person to configure, so call him/her an administrator if you like. Unfortunately, so often they become moderators who forget they are just a last resort when things go wrong, and participate far too much. A thankless task - step up folks, an opportunity to enhance the ego. Presume a moderator is appointed by one of the aforesaid who has gone missing - catch 22 then?

Presume a moderator is appointed by one of the aforesaid who has gone missing - catch 22 then? Technically, the persons who are appointed to apply changes, configure the forums, and add or remove posts or users, are called "administrators". They are said to own "administrator rights" in the forum. And yes, you need to be an admin to give admin rights to someone else.
