Do you have any Firebox/ashpan photos Dave, I am sorting a PM out as well at the moment and a few images of that area would be well helpful.

here you go This is obviously not made to the LBSC design. When I bought the engine, the original was knackered to say the least. This was made for me by JD Miniature Engineering. and it works a treat. He made it from a cardboard template. quite fiddly to get it to sit over the axle hence the shape.
hope it helps

Magic, thanks Dave, I have the LBSC drawings etc, but it is pretty naff to say the least, something is definitely needed to protect that rear axle, I will post a few pictures of my wooden mock up in a few days.

As with most LBSC "Drawings" you have to read his words and music at the same time to get the full picture........
Don't forget to make sure the ashpan top edges butt up against the bottom of the Foundation ring, and that the firegrate sits up into the bottom of the firebox...............You don't want any air passing up and bypassing the burning coals

this weeks update Good progress now thanks to the Cellulose delivery. Its interesting stuff to use. not particularly pleasant, but effective. Anyone new to using it, its worth noting that any parts that have been subject to heat cycling for many years, the paint doesn't come off using this stuff. the Chimney being a great example. ended up using a wire brush in my drill which worked a treat, especially considering the shape of it. mid may progress by david follows, on Flickr really pleased with how they all come out. took some elbow grease with wet and dry + WD40 as lubricant to get this finish, but its a good base for the future repainting. obviously will need final degreasing before applying the primer. mid mah progress 2 by david follows, on Flickr The chassis took a lot of elbow grease. it's too big to submerse in Cellulose and therefore all had to be stripped by hand. took ages to get into tall the nooks and crannies. It's not complete but pretty close. Yes, I could have taken the whole thing apart, but being a newbie, I have nightmares about alignment issues upon re-assembly. maybe this will happen anyway and am planning a sense check prior to final re-assembly, but here hoping. Still have lots of small components left to strip, but most of them are small so (hopefully) shouldnt be as time consuming as this lot now praying that the paint finish I can actually achieve is worth all this work....... watch this space dave
