Hello everyone,
If I've got the Urban myth correct the great man was virtually colour blind and authorised what he thought was a new shade of Green for a loco type......Only when it was applied it was actually a form of Golden Ochre ??
Can anyone give me the paint RAL code or BS Number etc as I need to get some spray tins made up for a repair job I'm doing...
Many thanks in advance.........
Alan

Alan, Go and have a read of this thread HERE. The Stroudley livery was covered in great detail. Regards, Steve

Hi Steve ------- many thanks indeed for that link...I read it all and found it most useful on quite a few levels..........What a shame D1015 was re-painted from its' original Golden Ochre back in the day.....Given the physical paint's actual history I bet that must have given Stroudley immense pleasure looking down from above to see his own, personally approved colour speeding up and down the GWR's main lines ??...........Makes me chuckle, that's for sure.
The SVR have their Autumn Diesel gala soon ( Oct. 3rd to Oct.6th ) and D1015 is scheduled to take part...I see from the DLG's site that it now runs in that ghastly "Corporate Blue" having worn the Maroon livery beforehand..........Long shot I know but I wonder if there is any small part tucked away that still carries the original, Swindon applied Golden Ochre colour ??.........
I feel a long-overdue visit to Bridgnorth coming on !!
Incidentally my interest in all this is because I'm currently involved with some minor body repairs and paint touch-up to a 5" gauge D1015 Western Champion supplied by Phoenix Model Locos........I phoned them recently and spoke to their Keith who informed me that----
a) They only ever supplied 3 locos in that livery -- so like it's full size counterpart this one is quite scarce..
b) Due to a lack of suitable paints at that time ( some 10 to 15 years ago ) they mixed their own !!
It seems as if the model re-enacts the full size ..... but loosely, that is..
I have a major paint dealer nearby who can scan the model and reproduce the actual colour seen on the body so I think I'll give that approach a try first..
Cheers
Alan

One day, I'll underline my final Western, the only one I never saw was Champion, been to Bridgnorth a few times but it must have been hidden away!
