So following on from the rounding bar ends thread here's a place to put those uses of the angle grinder
1 Rounding rod ends
2 Scoring the back of thicker plate material before bending to reduce bending force required. Similar to scoring plastic of cardboard before folding.
3 Chop saw mounted in suitable carrier.
Over to you

If the noise of the angle grinder is too much for you then you can always do as I did, turn round quickly and cut through the mains cable about 18" from the tool Oh, and don't put it down till it's stopped!

Paul,
You just reminded me of "The Blacksmith's Invention":
" The Blacksmith told me before he died of a maid in the village who was n'er satisfied.
So he built her a .... of steel driven by a bloody great wheel...
...On the 99th stroke, the bloody thing broke..."
not sure what an angle grinder had to do with it though... Keith
ps, stihl chainsaw without blade oil in it is very good at halving frozen turkeys, although the neighbour's cats spend the next week licking the sawdust off the lawn...

The wife once walked in with the hedge trimmer with a neatly cut cable. She said I don't understand why is does not work as it's plugged in. Well I did manage 10 seconds before falling about laughing.
Use 11
When you have broken one you can use the bevel gearbox to power a 5" battery loco.

G'day all. Angle grinder uses. 12)Taking rough cuts of HSS tool before finishing off with conventional grinder 13) Cutting brass, quick and easy (This is my favourite ) 14) Sharpening carbide tips, mount AG in vise or clamp to bench I have yet to make up a jig to hold the AG which includes a tool rest. Noddy, what's the punch line?Don't leave me hanging............... ;D I use a cheap angle grinder with a 1mm cutting blade to cut pieces off large sheets of thin gauge steel.Mind you,I did use it on 1/4"aluminium as well.I actually have 3,so I don't have to keep changing the disc. 1 cutting,1 grinding, and 1 sanding.

16) Following on from mmaidnz If you fit a flap type sanding wheel, it's fantastic for cleaning up welding. You don't get the scores that a gringing wheel leaves and your "snotty" welds can be beautifully rounded off. Well mine are "snotty"

I managed to make a set of points completely from steel stock using just the angle grinder and welder. Perhaps no big achievement but I was pretty pleased with them. So far I've had no derailments on them and they cost me about 20 quid to make versus about 200 for a point kit of the same radius.
17) A friend of mine is a now retired marine engineer and the story goes that on more than one occasion an angle grinder was used to hone the bores of a giant marine diesel engine.
With the cylinder head off the engine, one simply stands on the piston crown at BDC and turns slowly around with the grinder applied to the cylinder!!!

I'd imagine the resultant grinding paste works well trapped between the crown of the piston and the uppermost ring too!?!
Cheers

I'd imagine the resultant grinding paste works well trapped between the crown of the piston and the uppermost ring too!?! You could easily put sticky tape to seal the gap and clean up well afterwards. The small amount not 'lapped' wouldnt matter, its at the low pressure end. At the powerstation I once helped on a turbine overhaul/outage. The cast steel valve bodies have monel sealing rings. The turbines have been running for 4 years at about 560deg C so there is some scale build-up on the sealing faces. We re face them by manually grinding with broken bits of grindstones and angle grinder disks. Its the only way to remove only the scale, powered tools can start to remove good metal. I was sat in one valve body for 3 days, mind numbing. Theres a couple of square feet of metal to descale! To stop the scale and grindstone dust going 30ft down the steam pipe we simply use cut ply discs and lots of duct tape, a good hoover out and solvent wipe gets rid of all the dust.
