Morning all
As foretold by some it seems the days of a free Flickr account are numbered.
Got an e mail from the CEO asking me to upgrade from the standard "up to 1000 pictures for free" account to Flickr Pro. Cost about $48pa.
I imagine that many of you have a similar mail.
I only have put 217 pictures in since 2017. Hardly a big user.
Suggestions, or do I just roll over a pay up?
Happy Christmas
Malcolm
PS I do not want to "loose" these pictures.

I would start by making sure you have a local copy of all of them. Those who paid up on Photosuckit have found it has been down for a number of days now Jo

I saw the email this morning, thinking it was spam.
Having read it very quickly I didn't see them saying they were stopping free accounts only encouraging a discount for people signing up for Pro now before the price goes up in 2020?

Let's not forget the old adage about a Free Lunch.
I've always kept the advice of John Ruskin about Price close----like my enemies so that I know what they are doing! That was a bit from a very wise old Chinese friend

Let's not forget the old adage about a Free Lunch. SNIP On holiday in Moscow years ago I heard this one from a local: "The only place you find free cheese is in a mousetrap!" John

I haven't had the email, but I've got about 3500 photos on my thread on my original free 1TB account that is now frozen. So far, the threats to start removing all but the most recent 1000 photos has proven to be an empty one as they're still there. I imagine they had a huge backlash about them deleting photos that were posted under their original terms and conditions and probably realise that it would sink the company if they were seen as being that malicious. I've been using free accounts started on my behalf by other family members who have no iterest in using Flickr, and I'll continue to do that until I run out of people to ask! I don't use Flickr as a repository for my photos, I keep all of the originals on my computers and on the cloud under Dropbox which I do pay for as it's necessary for my business. I'm not about to pay for Flickr, especially since we were misled about what we were being offered. It's not our fault that their business model didn't work! Nothing is truly free, you have to put up with advertising to get these services and that's fair enough. Switching from one business model to another shouldn't affect existing users, they should only roll out the new charges to new customers who know what the new terms and conditions are.

"The early bird gets the worm.... but it's the second mouse who gets the cheese."
Sorry - drifting off topic but couldn't resist that one!

I use Imjur, free so far but no idea of limit on numbers of images, I'll just carry on until I encounter a problem.
