Frankly, it is a bit of a travesty. It doesn't even look as if it is intended to be a working model, although I may be wrong. One of those that, if someone bought it and tried to complete it, the frustration levels would be huge, I suspect.
Although, bearing in mind the other thread about prices, maybe the frustration levels are tacitly recognised in the price in this case.

I'm sorry that this will hurt somebody's feelings but it's a piece of junk. Current price is about the max it will reach.

I hope whoever buys it goes in eyes wide open. Alternatively maybe if it is cheap enough someone will learn some skills from improving it even if it doesn't get finished. It does look like a big ask to get it vaguely close to running.

Theres no photo of it from underneath to tell if its even got any valve gear. Chances of there being any boiler paperwork are minimal.
Its not for me, I've too many other things on, but sometimes I've taken pity on a sad case like this, as a challenge, and to rescue it from the hands of the Phillistines.

That's my excuse as well I like to think that I'm 'saving' a bit of the hobbies history. In reality, I think I must get some sort of masochistic enjoyment out of trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Usually it would have been much easier and quicker to have started from scratch!

It looks like someone has spent a lot of time to get it to look like that!

A reasonable late-Stirling cab sat on top of a Meccano-like chassis... and labelled LMS!!
But I bet it was someone's pride and joy, so maybe unfair to mock anything other than the price.

Yep they both look rough but I once walked round a model engineers exhibition and looked at most of the locomotives and thought 'I can do better than that' etc etc. I have since thought about it and modified my thinking completely because I haven't finished an engine yet - I'm actually nowhere near finishing one yet.
There is no doubt in my mind that if you finish a locomotive and get it running, just getting to that point is a massive achievement no matter how rough it looks.

The folks that seem to take forever, or never finish a loco, always seem to say "it's the journey, not the destination".

I think that sums it up nicely. Now I have a running (but not very cosmetically appealing!) locomotive I am finding myself wanting to do my Britannia to the best of my ability, no matter how long it takes. I found myself swinging between the two camps (wanting to get into steam and wanting to craft something well) so I'm glad I finally stumbled onto owning two locomotives.

The folks that seem to take forever, or never finish a loco, always seem to say "it's the journey, not the destination". Actually, that's not completely true. I finished my Stanier 2-6-4T in 10 years (the same time it took to finish my previous loco, my Rob Roy), and I found that when I went to the track, after raising steam and having a coupe of laps, I was more than happy to let others drive it around, while I sat and drank tea. That eventually led me to selling it, although now I am retired, I find I never have much time to get into the workshop, so my present projects are all progressing slowly, and I would be grateful to have the Stanier again to run.
