Hi There This is a temporary site from Model Engineer for Model Engineer readers.
The official ME/ MEW website is being written at the moment by Magicalia web designers. regards david

I've got to say that the paper one is improving, but still isn't a patch on what it was 10 years or so ago. Nemmet is a big part of the improvement.
that and the distributer in Ireland is seriously poor, although even that is an improvement from not available at all.
You guys still sometimes get to read it a fortnight before I get it.
I think Engineering in Miniature is the better mag at the moment, more good serialized model building, more articles on interesting engines and some good solid club news, also less "boiler plate"
ok, Rant over

David, don't get me wrong,I think an official ME website is an excellent idea but if it's temporary for heavens sake say so. Typo's, grammatical errors and bad links on the first couple of pages don't inspire confidence and we all know what a nit-picking pedantic bunch model engineers can be.
Give it a couple of years and it may get to be as good as some of the private sites, but it will need to provide original content and be more than an advert to be taken seriously.
Cheers, Andy

What happened to the idea of putting back numbers of MEW on the site for subscribers? Now that would be useful content.

Why just for subscribers?
I'm assuming that ME and MEW have more secure futures under Magicalia, but the reason I didn't subscribe was I didn't want to be putting money up front for a mag that looked like it was going to have the rug pulled from under it.
If I spend money on a Magazine, I want to get a magazine, not pay a bunch of bankers to have 3 hour lunch breaks...
I now buy on the content, and if it's not up to scratch the mag gets returned.

That appears to be still "on the cards" but, as it was first mentioned back before Pontius was a pilot, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Perhaps it's a darstardly plot by "Stun-a-stoat Inc" to get us hooked on the Internet. Some say that's already happened !

Given that Magicalia were a web design company first, and they already have the www.model-engineer.co.uk domain name I thought it was strange that this website popped up. I've done a Who Is on the www.model-engineer.co.uk domain and it is registered to Magicalia. However, the www.modelengineermagazine.com appears to be registered to the Editor of ME ( David Carpenter ). Further, given the number of "mistakes" on the site, I can't beleive that a professional web company would : a ) Buy another domain when they already have one b) Set it up as temporary without stating so c) Allow the number of mistakes it has to pass throught the system Therefore, I dont know whether this site has the "blessing" of Magicalia despite all the copyright info saying Magicalia etc. Maybe this has been done by the editor, and is yet to be ratified by them as a temporary solution ?? As for whether MEW back issues, and any content from already published material in ME or MEW is ever going to end up on the web, well the answer is, I dont know. Also, it is past business hours now, and so we cant ask Magicalia what the status of this website is ?? Any further guessing or commenting by us is pure conjecture.... I will ring them in the morning and ask them to "clarify" the matter Rgds Keith

I have seen the official Model Engineer/ Model Engineers' Workshop Website and have used it in demo version. The Model Engineer site is not it. Wait for the official site, it is really good and very professional. Have a look at www.modelflying.co.uk/to see the quality of an official Magicalia site. Totally different to the one under discussion here. Also scroll down to the bottom of the flying site for link to the military modeling site. Again a superb site. regards David Editor Model Engineers' Workshop

No doubt we will all find out when they get the "proper" site up and running, and /or add more to the temporary / original site.

Whilst from that article, the future of ME and MEW looks promising from our point of view, I dont like the comment from Magicalia's Chairman, that, "...providing a "Battersea Dogs Home" for unwanted titles". (That assumes he was quoted correctly.
The prices that have been discussed in the two most recent occasions when ME was up for sale, show that they are far from "unwanted".
However, as I said, if the rest of the article is accurate, the future looks bright.

It was the bit about 'subscriber only content' that worried me, I much prefer to collect my magazines from my local newsagent, with a regular order of course, on the 'use it or lose it' principle. Personally I would welcome some mechanism, albeit at a cost, to gain access to such material without taking out a postal subscription - assuming such content is worthwhile of course.
Vested interest declared - I have a shop and the viability of our town centre directly affects my livelihood.
Cheers, Andy
