Hi there My father was a model engineer and he was in the middle of making a 3" scale Burrell traction engine when he died suddenly. We have lots of plans, lots of metal and lots of tools if anyone wants to come and look through everything that goes with it. We will give it all away free of charge. If we could have a picture if it when it's finished that would be great. Thanks

Are you sure you want to do that? there could be a fair bit of value in what you have. Ron

Try to contact your local model engineering club, someone will come and give you a fair assessment of what you've got. If you're still not sure ask them to give you a list, and publish it on this forum, I'm sure somehow we can help. Many condolences for your undoubted sad loss, and I know from past experience that you may want to get rid of things to try to accelerate the healing process but don't allow yourself to be sold short. Kindest regards.

Please don't be hasty in your grief. It sounds as if you have some considerable value there. Where are you located? Who know, it could be me who takes on the completion project.

Hi I would agree with other comments, there could be some value there, perhaps you have a local model engineers society or why not try the steam apprentice club, there may be a youngster on there who with assistance, would love the opportunity to finish this engine, and give it a loving home?

Reality check time, if your going to take the offer of a free traction engine in return for finishing it off for someone are you actually going to able to complete the work to a reasonable standard and more importantly within a sensible time period? Its not going to be much fun for the family when its still not finished 10years down the line. I dont want to **** on the party however be realistic and honest about what you are takng on and the promise you are effectivley making.

Hi freetraction, Mutley and russell are right here. It would also be a shame IMHO to give this stuff away, though I'll bet you're unsure just how to value it. There are a few businesses on the web dealing in miniature steam engines etc., why not try a few of those to at least get an idea of the value? Station Road Steam springs to mind www.stationroadsteam.co.uk/ (no connection) as being a useful place to start. No doubt the lads and lasses here can suggest more. Lurkio.

Again I will say yes you have value in any parts, even the dreaded E-bay will bring some rewards if listed correctly.
I would be interested to see what you have as a traction engine is in my future plans, if you are going to give away I would be very interested just have a project or two to finish first. Oh and a seriuos illness to beat, but once that is done I will have plenty of recoup time in the workshop... speaking of which I really must put the laptop down and go out there fro my hour or so today....
