Hello from Richard Nixon This cylinder came with a recent purchase . It is not of interest to me , so would like to pass it on to somebody who can use it. It is well made , the bore is 15/16 inch, stroke is 1 and 3/8 inch and the steam chest is 2.125 by 1.25. Any help on identity would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You must not attach a photo to a message - you must host it on a hosting site and embed the link.
There is a thread at the top of the board (called "Forum attachment limit reached") explaining how to do it.

Read that and did as Mr Clark said but did not work. All beyond me I am afraid, which is why I asked for help. A kind member who offered to post photo recognised the assembly so now sorted. Well pleased. Thank you, Richard.

Out of curiousity, what did the cylinder turn out to be for?

You must not attach a photo to a message - you must host it on a hosting site and embed the link. There is a thread at the top of the board (called "Forum attachment limit reached") explaining how to do it. The trouble with that thread is that it is way out-of-date and a newbie has to wade through five pages of detail and still not find a solution. I expect most people would give up long before then.
It would be better if one of the moderators deleted the thread and then posted a substitute, locked thread with the same name and containing the correct up-to-date information. If anything changed, the mod could unlock the thread, post the new relevant information, then lock it again.
It should be an advisory or information thread, not a discussion thread.
Regards, Steve

Steve That is possible I think Roger should have a say as its his thread if he agrees we can delete it. There is a good pinned thread called Posting photos the trouble with locking it is the host sites do change so this thread is updated on how to. cheers Jason.

I have to agree 100% with Steve, Being told to read it and then do what it says did not work at all for me
I was more than pleased to receive the assistance by another member.
I am told the cylinder is for a locomotive called Rob Roy.
Thanks to all
Richard.

If Roger agrees, I would suggest that the thread is replaced with a single post explaining that the forum no longer hosts photos (with a reason why, maybe) and that they should click "HERE" to find various ways of getting their pictures into their thread. The "HERE" would then link directly to the "Posting Photo's" thread. That way, new members become aware of the problem and can then peruse the other thread at their leisure rather than becoming frustrated at the whole process. Just deleting the thread would not address the problem of receiving the "attachment limit" message. A short explanation goes a long way towards making people feel more comfortable with a process. Being thrown in at the deep end is no guarantee that you'll learn to swim.
Regards, Steve

Greetings, I regret to say that I have made several attempts to load photos, and have found the instructions out of date & confusing, and in the end gave up. The idea of an explanatory thread, locked is a good one, bit I plead that the author remembers that some people are not so computer literate as others. Regards Brian B
