Ron, Would guess after 16 months very few rights but it depends which country you're in. The US used to limit product liability to 90 days, UK is at best a year. Its likely what was once a bleeding edge capable laptop 16 months ago could now be all but obsolete. Certainly my once (and still quite hot) laptop has been rejected by the Windows 11 tester. I hate Windows 10, its just too slow for the limited time I have left and still measures in years, I hope.
As for passwords many web sites require not just a sensible length using upper and lower case letters but both digits and punctuation characters. I normally use favourite numbers entered with the shift key down.

I would start with the company you purchased it from. I have a rule of thumb of buying electronic stuff from a reputable dealer like John Lewis who normally provides more than a 12 months Warranty for free. For instance on my TVs they provide 5 years . Jo

Currys/PC World don't want to know after 3 months--- They'd like not to know - and some might let them achieve it, but use the sale of goods act, which has little to do with guarantees.

Apple are sometimes very good with sale of goods act if it is a known fault.

Sale of Goods Act (1979) was replaced by The Consumer Rights Act in October 2015. Consumer Rights Act overview here. Regards, Phil
