Sorry I posted the original question in the wrong section, so ............... Does anyone have drawings for a steam whistle suitable for a 5" gauge loco or failing that a supplier who doesn't charge the earth?? The one fitted at the moment sounds more like a penny whistle on a bad day! Thanks again

G'day Scoobiesdo
There is no mystery in a whistle, design your own. KS brass tube from a model aircraft shop will do. I have seen a design using a common "Scouts" whistle with an adapter to connect the steam pipe to a cut down mouth piece. I thinks scouts whistles are like the old "bobbies" whistle, a cylinder about 2.5" 63mm long, two note and without a pea. If nothing else you'll get some boys scouts when you blow it, you can rub two of them together to start your fire. ;D If making your own don't forget to make the steam end stop with a cut away at reduced diameter not not a segment, the lip needs to be square. The outer stop can be adjustable like a "penny whistle" to get the note you want.
Regards, Ian

I'm sure somebody somewhere sells an electronic gizmo which will make a noise approximating a full-size loco.
Alternatively, make the current whistle longer - like trumpets go round corners etc - and remember the whistle is different with hot steam than cold air.
