I had a great few hours in the garage this afternoon producing some quality scrap :-)
Sometimes, things just don't seem to work!

Useful stuff scrap - I find I can often make smaller pieces of scrap from large pieces perhaps two or three times over.
Anyway, you should have posted an image or two because some folk just won't believe you spent all that time and effort purposely making scrap.

No, it wouldn't be fair to post pictures. I'm sure it would only upset those, that despite how hard they try, can only turn out flawless pieces of work.
Me, I'm an expert at taking multiple cuts 0.01mm at a time, only to grab and turn the wrong handle on the last cut - it takes true genius to do that!

I tend to forget which way to turn the milling machine handles ;D I always try to go to the same end of the table (the right end is difficult to get at anyway). Before I start winding, I think to my self, suck towards anti-clockwise, blow away clockwise. This has translated into the x and z handles too and touch wood no dramas for a while, says he setting himself up for a fall! Kind Regards

I taped a sketch of hwo they work over the safety instructions. Now this is just before my nose when I'm at the machine. So far this has helped...

Considering this pursuit is a marathon rather than a sprint, I take the following approach. I toss all my scrappers in a bucket. When the project is done I weight the bucket. If the bucket weighs less than the project . . . . I'VE WON!

What i have started doing is collecting the off cuts and swarf as well as "Scrap Production" in a tin.
There is a tin for copper and for Gun metal as well as brass.
I stumbled on a few good web sites for backyard foundry's and will give it a crack when i get the chance and enough swarf.
Since I'm doing gauge one stuff it wont take long to create a wooden template cover with latex and cast a wax item. i could even cut the wax by hand.
There was plenty of info about creating green sand and the like so my plan is to make bogie's and the like from my swarf that would normally go in the bin. It surprised me how quickly you can fill a container with bits and pieces. I have about 1kg of gun metal so far. i thing that would make a few bogie's.
