A tolerance question if I may:
I've turned the centre part of my crank axle, which consists of a 3/4" Silver Steel bar with a 1/2 wide shouder of 11/16 diameter at each end. As I work in metric, that equates to two shoulders 12.7 wide by 17.46 diameter.
As the piece will be loctited and pinned into the webs, I have turned the shoulders down to 17.44 diameter to give a bit of room for the glue. However, I have managed to turn one shoulder to 17.44mm and the other to 17.425. A difference of 0.015mm.
Of course, the offending item is now out of my 4 jaw chuck, so I cannot bring both shoulders to exactly the same diameter. Is such a small difference going to be an issue, or should I just crack on! ?

Hi Smiffy,
That is only about half a thou (in my language) difference. I am sure it will be OK.
One thing: When the part is assembled and the loctite still wet, try to set it such that the web can centre itself.
Chris.

I think that will hardly matter. And that is assuming your measurement is without tolerance.

Cool, thanks guys :-)
That's a good point on how accurate my micrometer is, though. However, as I only have one, then any errors will be consistent, so I'll take that as 100% accurate as long as it stays within my garage!
