Hi all
Does anyone know if there is an alternative outlet to Reeves for castings for the 5" railmotor?
In case Chris is panicking it's not yet another project to add to my ever expanding list, it's for another chap I know.
Cheers in anticipation
Brian

I doubt if there is another supplier Brian. I've an idea Reeves took over the copyright to all the Don Young designs so they've probably got a stranglehold on all the castings etc.

That would certainly seem to be the case with the 'Hunslet' horn-blocks which are noticeably different and need some modification in order to avoid a 'foul' that may not be immediately apparent until after the frames are assembled.

DY was a good believer in recycling castings/patterns, so suspect the blame lies at the design/patterns rather than with Reeves.
I think Baggo is correct and Reeves are the only supplier of DY designs as they purchased the DY range from HRM when they folded... The quality if the castings I have come across building GEORGE so far have been good, if a little long in the delivery time or a little covered in rust, but I guess GEORGE is not a popular design and so was being cast to order or a couple have been on the shelf for several years...

But the bottom line is that, insofar as 'Hunslet' horn-block castings are concerned, the castings as currently supplied by Reeves differ from those supplied to me by the late DY.

Sounds like a plan, will be in touch soon.
I am presently staying in Falkirk which is well placed for the office and the airports. I am off to Prestwick next week and Abu Dhabi the week after. Not sure which I'm looking forward to more!?!
Cheers for now
