Never seen this before, four steam locos racing with their trains, only the Australians would have the imagination to do this!!! Yes on four paralell tracks and great fun. Can you even think of Network rail closing a four rack section for a fun day. Lots on YouTube so enjoy!!
Cheers David

If it happened here, there would be some who complain you shouldn't do that to historic items. So long as the cylinders are warm, so water isn't there to damage the cylinders, and the water can't carry over it should be OK and looks fun. Baldric.

The drains are all open as they await the flag drop. No doubt the reverser would have been cycled as they wait. Sanding for the first 50 meters for a sure footed start, so a bad slip and carry over is much reduced. Not much different than a suburban start when steam did the honours before diesel and or electrics took on the task. They have thought it all out, a lot of planning and understanding is done before each event. This staged event (they do not really race each other) creates a lot of media and public interest which is good for the steam heritage world here and keeps the tax payer funds feeding in.

I don't understand how they switched lanes, unless the footage is a montage of several runs
