I am asking for some help please. Had a phone call last evening from a guy in Florida. He had seen a picture, apparently of me, standing by the old Bournemouth Club track, seemingly waiting for the start of an IMLEC session. As far as I can ascertain this would have been either 1981 or 1986. This picture appeared in the ME mag just after. Can anyone with access to an index reply with the particular issue number. My off stage name is Stan Bishop and I speak very often from the Staines Society. I am not at all vain but do not remember this picture and would like to source a copy or at least see the article. Many thanks in advance for whatever time anyone spends doing this.

Hi Stan
IMLEC 1981 was reported in Vol.147 No. 3663 and 1986 in Vol.157 No. 3784. Both contain quite a lot of photographs. Hope that helps.
John

Stan, I have found the Report for the 1981 IMLEC (13th) at Bournemouth in the ME dated August 21, 1981 Volume 147 Number 3663 Page 1012. I regret there is no Young Stanley in any of the photographs, or at least he is not mentioned. I will try to get the article for the 1986 competition, probably the 18th. I hope this will be later this week.

Hi Tony. Thanks for your message. The guy that called seemed certain it was me, but I have never driven in an IMLEC. The question I would really like an answer to is that he had my name and home telephone number. This apparently came from the picture or article associated with the event. He reckoned my 'image' made him wonder if I was somebody else he knew from RAF days during the mid fifties, I served my NS with the RAF from 1960 till 1962, so again a no hoper.
Will sort the articles etc out and have a look. Many thanks for your time anyway. Stan.

This is aimed more so at Tonytrans. I put the two issue numbers to my old friend so that he could sort through his collection. Would you believe he is missing the whole range from before to after those numbers. If there was any chance of copies of your own, if you manage to find them, I would be grateful, with the usual re-imbursment of course. Stan.

Thanks to the efforts of Tony I now have both sets of reports from the 1981 & 1986 IMLEC Trials at Bournemouth. Early scans of them does not answer the question of where the guy in Florida got my details from. Unless it was a hoax, although I do seem to doubt that.
So now that is all said and done this thread can almost be closed. Thanks again Tony, a great help. stan.

No problem - it was a delight to peruse the adverts in the magazines - and the British tools and prices!
