Hi all,l am currently working on a 7.25" gauge 14xx based on a chassis l obtained from Station Road Steam,l have both the Martin Evans drawings and the John Smith upgrade drawings,l am at the point where l now need to decide which of the Motion stay designs to use,the martin evans version is a lot simpler but the john smith upgrade does look a lot better, the castings though are a lot more expensive, can anyone give me an indication as to which design has the best performance??? (if any),sorry if this sounds a bit vague!!!

Jack First run through my thread here modeleng.proboards.com/thread/9555/dart-valve-gearYou will find input from Don Ashton who redesigned the Martin Evans valve gear for me. See his initial input in the third post. John Smiths design is prototypical and Martin Evans isn't. Dons comment was "Second, the prototype valve gear is lousy!" so I'd say go the Martin Evans route and follow Dons design, it is all there in the thread. I can vouch for it it is fantastic. Then once you've done all the motion and as you have the John Smith drawings go to this thread for my experiences of building the platework supplied by Polly Model to the John Smith drawings. modeleng.proboards.com/thread/14582/dart-plateworkYou will then have a fantastic looking loco that runs like a dream Good luck Pete
