After much talking and advice, I have decided to have a go at building Speedy. I was going to build the 5" gauge Stirling Single but I can't get to the bottom of why there are so many unfinished. The reason I have chosen Speedy is it looks " hard as nails" as one might say.

Good luck with the project but are you sure your heart's really in it if you wanted a Stirling?

One Speedy engine visits our club every now and then ,it looks great and runs well .Just to clarify something I said before about Stirling , I looked yesterday and discovered that I did bend the frames and not used the idea I mentioned , I must have used that idea on another engine , age is affecting me !! . Sorry about that. In my opinion You should build what your heart wants and cross the bridges when they come but it is your decision . Good luck.

Ron Your absolutely right Ron a lot of the decision is in the heart so I'm going to take a step back and give it a week or so and get it right. I think the heart could be the reason why there are a lot of unfinished models around.

On the subject of singles , does anyone have any drawings for a single , preferably a midland spinner , which I could scale for G1 , either scans or for sale. It was always my ambition to build a small gauge single and DOT was a diversion that is now almost finished.

Hi Abby,
I've got scans of the complete ME series for the 5" Princess of Wales, the Martin Evans design for the Midland Railway Johnson singles. You're welcome to those if they would be of help.

John , as usual you come to the rescue , anything you have would be a great help , I am in no hurry so whenever you have the time will suit fine. I am just about to embark on a 5" castings project so I will probably be very busy for several months.

Just out of interest,I noticed this 15xx class model at the recent exhibition of the Sutton Coldfield Model Engineering Society. Actually it is 'Paddington', the 7-1/4" gauge version;it was a very impressive miniature loco.

I like the Victorian elegance to the "ard as nails" engines and Speedy would be my choice if I hadent got so many engines being constructed. Lovely model above, but it is best in B.R. neglected livery, fully lined out in rust and priming stains from the chimney!!!
David.
PS. I'm not even going to paint one of my models, well, maybe from 2 feet away in a mix of grey, black and dust, dont look Chris.
