Hi all,
We are toying with the idea of a move to sunny Lincolnshire, but my dilemma is my large south african locos are 3.5" gauge. I believe the Lincoln club doesn't have 3.5" gauge at all and the Grimsby one only has a tiny circuit. My engines do like a good run with decent gradients - are there any clubs within an hour's drive up there with reasonable 3.5" gauge circuits, either ground level or raised? Which clubs up there get a good busy public turnout on running days? The days are gone when I can go around in circles on a track without a load of paying passengers.
Of course the tracks in south africa cater nicely for 3.5" gauge but the missus won't emigrate out there just for the sake of playing trains...
cheers

It looks as if you are thinking of North Lincolnshire. This looks good to me.... Scunthorpe SMEIf you are going to South Lincs - maybe Stamford or Peterborough is within your grasp?

Looking at Scunthorpe's website, it is nice to see a track plan, plus details of track dimensions, clearances etc., and full details of requirements for visiting locos.

Have been to sunny Scunny track, it is large, and secluded being attached to Normanby Hall. Excellent club, and facilities

Thanks to all, I didn't even realise there was a track in Stamford. Nice picturesque town too. No pics of the club on the website though...
The Chesterfield one promises some nice gradients because of the bridge, always good to put the driver's skills to the test. My loco has working sanding gear so you really get to open it up without worrying too much about slipping with heavy loads, just have to keep a finger on the sander lever and tap it a bit.
thanks again!

Hi Andy
Stamford is a very nice town, lived there for 14 years! Never did visit the clubs track, I think its in the grounds of a private school some miles north of the town. Peterborough is a friendly club and nice track, no 'hills' though.
Nottingham is not so far away and there are some 'hills' for the 15F.
Cheers Arron
