I have put most of the recent BBC4 programs to DVD. The only show I deleted off my HDD was the one with Victoria Wood, just couldn't watch it! If anyone wants a list of the stuff I have on DVD just pm me.

Just reading through steam magazine and interestingly the steamy night in on tv had the highest number of viewers.
Could we all, be doing the right hobbie then!!!!

Yes David, I had seen that article by the editor of one of the steam mags as well. I suppose there is a general interest in nostalgia that attracts viewers to these programmes. Unfortunately the BBC and others are still fixated with redesigning houses/ gardens etc and bargain attic car boot sales etc. Altho' I'm biased, I've never seen a programme about our hobby, and wouldn't that be a fascinating thing for non model engineers to see a glimpse of castings, stock material etc being machined and worked and assembled into a live steam loco for instance. Look at the interest there was in Fred Dibnah's projects, although his character drew people to the programme initially, so many people remarked to me how interesting they found his projects.

Not sure I agree with that statement! The BARB figures for the 20th November give "The Last days of Steam" a viewing audience of 499,000 or a 2.43% audience share rising to 3.03% just before 2200. These figures are significantly below the other terestrial channels. Neve mind the Buzzcocks had a 7.71% share, Even 'Danger Men' on channel 5 had a larger share at 3.17% Andy

Andy, I think the steamy night [ mentioned by David ] highlighted by Danny Hopkins, editor of Steam Railway, was prior to 20th November as I read it in the November 11th - December 14th issue. The point made by Danny was that BBC 4 had just posted it's biggest ever viewing figures for one evening. Cheers,
Ian.
