That is BIG for a copper boiler. In fact, at that size I'm surprised it isnt a lot dearer.

£3000 was jsut a rough guess by Paul. As me doesnt have any true dimentions, only rough dimentions, 14" and about 1 meter tall. The end result could be twice as much.

As a general rule, once you get over 6" diameter or thereabouts, copper is uneconomic. For the size you mention, I suspect you would need a mortgage to buy the materials.
I would stick with steel at that size.

Hi i spoke to paul pridham today, and told him your rough sizes, he would be very happy to talk it through with you, copper, steel, welded or riveted in either it would not be a problem, i dont want to advertise the busines too much as i work there but a few boilers we have built recently include one for the stephensons rocket, a foden 5 ton wagon, a robey compound traction engine, and we are part way through the flying scotsman (a3), worth asking as the lead has gone down as we have just finished a batch of jobs.

Before worrying about price, can I suggest you clarify exactly what you require. Is it a published design, and if so, does it use steel or copper?
If not, have all the design calculations been done, and approved, and if so, what material are they based upon.
No matter what the material, it would be a pity to spend out and then find the boiler couldnt be used.

try and give them a ring, to discuss it, with all due respect to every one concered without dimensions or a design agreed, prices cannot be accurate any way, regards Ben

At the moment i just want a rough price of what a steel boiler would be, if it was about £6000, then i would forget about the project. i dont want to do loads of calculations etc, i jsut want a rough price, Same size as this- s93.photobucket.com/albums/l63/an....nt=101_0064.jpg

It may be worth talking to the steam boat association , they have a library of approved boiler designs (go to news page on their website) . This may make a neat little engine to go with it! www.southdown4x4.co.uk/steam.htm
