Can anyone recommend a supplier or maker of spur gears in the UK?
My present requirement is for two 12 DP gears, 1 x 15 tooth and 1 x 30 tooth. These will be the timing gears on a hit 'n' miss engine.
I may require some other smaller gears for different models in the future, but in the interests of postage economy I may order all that I require in one go.

Wow. Express replies. Thanks to Gugger, Weldsol and Jasonb.
I have already looked at the suppliers mentioned and am negotiating for a bank loan before taking the plunge. I just wondered whether there any smaller establishments who were a little more 'price friendly'.
Jason. The first model in question is Retlas from Alyn Foundry. I have had the castings for several years and thought it about time I made a start. All of the American casting sets appear to come with gears.

Hi Dave, The cheapest way is to cut them yourself. Ordinary spur gears are easy enough. If you don't fancy it, you may find some kind soul on this forum who would do it for you if you made the blanks perhaps? Outside diameters need to be 15 tooth = 1.412", 30 tooth = 2.667". I have just checked my collection of gear cutters but do not have the two sizes you need or I would offer myself.

The thing with HPC etc is they mass produce the gears which keeps the costs down. By the time someone has set up their machines to cut one off gears the prices from these companies will be hard to beat.

Could you use 20dp ie a 25Tand 50T which gives the same centres, if so Myford change gears at a little over a fiver each from RDG may do the job.

Hi I am one of those kind souls who cuts gears for others, I may be able to help. I have not checked my cutters but if no one else volenteers to help, try me and I promise I am miles cheaper than the guys at HPC and Moffat! If we can alter the DP a bit I can hob them for you in stead of involute cutting Peter

As long as there is 2:1 ratio and the centre distance is pretty close to the drawing, the DP doesn't really matter. So Myford change gears it will be. Many thanks for the suggestion.
