I wonder if some kind person could enlighten me as to the ratio differnece between Gauge 1 and Gauge 3? I have been considering building a locomotive but I only have the relevent build articles in two and a half inch gauge. Any help[ would be very much appreciated,

Gauge 1 runs on 45mm track, gauge 3 runs on 64mm track. But the scale of the model depends on the gauge of the prototype. Gauge 3 is about the smallest that can be used to pull yourself along on a raised track. On the other hand already large for running like model trains.

Gauge 1 seems to have 2 standards for their scale (Standard gauge locos such as British outline). 10mm to the foot or 9.5mm to the foot which gives a closer match between the size of the loco and the track gauge.
Gauge 3 or 2.5" Gauge uses 17/32" or 13.5mm to the foot.
If you want to scale down then multiply the 2.5" dimensions by 10/13.5 (0.74074) or 9.5/13.5 (0.7037).
It's not quite that straightforward though as you will probably have to alter the frame spacing, wheel back to back, buffer heights etc to fit the Gauge one Standards (available from their website). These may differ from the simple conversion figures.

... ScaleOne32 is different from G1 fine... I think you are indeed correct and I might have caused confusion by referring to Fine Scale. I will edit my post (if possible) to correct this.
