Has anybody got a Warco WM-240 lathe. Looking at the advert in ME mag and they look to be good value. I need a bigger lathe and the price is about right.
Any thoughts appriciated.

I can't comment on that particular lathe Mark other than to say I have a much older and cheaper built Warco that has served me well for 12 years now with no problems at all. There are also Warco lathes used at various studio's around the country and when you consider the amount of misuse that get from young technicians they have done well. I know that some mistrust so called chineese lathes but Warco strip down and rebuild all of theirs before passing onto customers and I believe ( info from the press) that chineese steel if of a higher quality than anything you can get from the west. Anyway as the saying goes "you makes your choice and pays your money" , I believe a Warco lathe is money well spent, but hey I'm a little bias.... Pete

Pete Can you post links to these sweeping statements? John S.

Hi John
From what I remember early Warco machines direct from china had problems, Warco then decided to rebuild them on arrival with better components where needed, as I say this is from memory but today I believe Warco does things differently with inspectors who work closely with the manufactures at source. Regarding quality of steel this had something to do with the Nuclear industry polluting the Steel.

I have the BV-20 from Warco (effectively just one down in size etc. from the WM-240 I think) and am extremely pleased with it.
Also very pleased with Warren Machine Tools customer service (usual disclaimer - not connected etc., simply a satisfied customer......).
I'm still very much a beginner at the metalwork/model engineering, but cannot fault my machine.
Regards, A

Many thanks for the info. I have a Warco miller and that has been nothing but first class so no problem with the product. I wanted to know if anybody had one and was happy.
The Duchess wheels were turned by others, my ML7 will not cope. At the time dad still had contacts with the local college, he was a senior lecture for over 28 years in engineering, anything that was to big was done at the college. I now dont have that option anymore so I need a bigger machine and the WM-240 is a 5" centre height machine and will be enough to machine the wheels for Tornado etc.
Anyway thanks for the info.
