Regards Peter Yes, the Blackgates website is very poor - just says "We are here." In the Blackgates catalogue 2012 (quick perusal) there are Michael Breeze drawings and bits for the following in 5" gauge .... Cock o' the North Duchess of Hamilton Flying Scotsman Green Arrow Royal Sovereign Sandringham Sea Eagle Sir Nigel Gresley Stembok (B1) 3 versions of P2 drawings, 22 sheets at £95.00 for each version, are quoted.... Shielded front Streamline front Round smokebox front Blackgates are on 01924 466000 (+44 1924 466000) Catalogue is £2.00

Hi All,
Were any of Michael's designs featured/described in magazine's?
Blackgate's make no referance to such so I am assuming not.
Regards,

Hi all! I have seen somewhere that there is an online site for Michael Breeze? Is this right? I have done the usual googling and have only found this thread. I'm just interested to know all the designs he has done.
Cheers Ben

I have just started on Michaels 5" V2. I would be interested to know if anyone has experience building this and if there are any issues. I have started on the tender and will probably modify the spring hanger arrangement from the drawing as it is a bit crude with just straight bolts into the top leaf. His tender design on the drawing is the LNER straight sided low front type which although this was fitted to Green Arrow there were more engines fitted with a later high front group standard 4200 gallon tender which also has a slightly different profile at the front.

i cannot comment on the Breeze V2 except that the draughting/smokebox arrangement is pretty bad from the drawings Ben Wetherall supplied me with, and i redesigned it for him at his request. cheers, julian

Hi John, I know what you mean about the way Michael has simplified some things on his drawings. I'm not criticising him as I haven't built anything yet so it would be wrong of me to do so. I always aspired to builders who create a mini replica of their chosen loco, so me and Dad have gone our own way now and are building our A1 from works drawings, although that in itself creates an awful lot of problems for us inexperienced builders. Experienced guys like Julian can redesign smoke boxes etc. to improve things, but we'll be learning the hard way, or cribbing off plans of similar engines . All part of the fun though. Michaels drawings build into a very nice model by all accounts, so if you improve some of the visual aspects such as the spring hangars that hook over the top leaf as opposed to bolts going through, as you have mentioned, you'll end up with a lovely loco at the end of it. Best of luck with it. I am about to send you a PM in the hope I can help you out. Best regards Andy

Yes, the later tenders had the upper short section of the tender side panel shifted forward so that there was not much more than a radius at the front, and a longer lower section at the back. Incidentally, if you have just started I have some castings going spare, a set of wheels plus other bits. If interested PM me with an e-mail address.
