Hi all, can some kind person point me in the right direction as to where I can get 3/16"x3/16"x1/32" brass angle for the rain strip on a B.R. loco roof, as the regular suppliers don't seem to stock it.

Have you tried Noggin End Metals? I am sure I have seen this stuff on their stand at the Midlands ME Ex.

Hi Eddie, sorry for taking so long to reply, but when I saw the K3 number I knew who it was. I had know idea about this store in Leeds and I bet this has been very helpful to a lot of other M.E.s and me, so thank you very much.

Just had a look at the site and am staggered at the range of nickle-silver they stock, it's not easily found out here. I see they also supply overseas too which could be very very handy. Thanks Eddie.

If I remember correctly Metalsmiths used to supply materials to the railway modelling fraternity, that's probably why there is a lot of nickel silver in stock, the preferred metal of the scratch builder.

Hi all, today I've been making the 4 cab handrails, fitting just one made a big difference and this was the rear one. The next problem is the one at the other side as J.P has the handrail stanchion sticking out the same as to other side, which is not as they were, so if I were to make the one at the cab end 90deg. to the other as they were , then they would not be in line , this is how they were or not. Any body got any idea's?

Hi Geoff, Looking at the photos in Clarke's book of Riddles Class 6/7 Standard Pacifics the Clans and the Britannias appear to have the same style for attaching the middle pair of handrail supports to the cab door frames. The tops of the handrails are bolted to the fixed roof section and the bottom to the cab floor supports

Clarke's drawing of the Clan Hope this helps. Jim

Hi all, well Jim & Mike with all that information , i'll do my best, thank you for the trouble you've went to. I didn't know there was a backing plate at the top of the handrail Mike.

Hi Geoff, the devil is in the detail as they say. I have quite a few photos of Oliver Cromwell. If there is anything you are struggling with and its on a Brit let me know and I'll see what I've got.

Hi all, I have now got the LH handrails fitted and all that has been discussed about them, then I had no option but to fit the LH stanchion the wrong way, that is straight on. These would have looked rather odd if I had fitted them the way they were, on the full size loco's. Now the bottom of the handrails have been threaded 5 BA . Now the collars which JP said to braze with silver solder, were tapped 5BA and were screwed on making them adjustable. The top of the handrail are attached to the roof with the flange bolted to the roof with 3 -12 BA bolts, as they were. Geoff (Carlisle).

Hi Geoff,
That's a very good idea of yours to make the collars on the bottom of the cab handrails as screw on and so adjustable. As you know the handrails are fiddly things to make as they have to follow the outline of the cabside then be a neat fit against a curved cab roof. You've done a great job Geoff with the cab rails and screw on collars.

Hi all, you will have noticed the absence of half round beading around the windows, well I, like a lot of MEs don't like putting it on, and a lot of MEs have different way's of doing it. But I did like the idea that Modelworks had , having stamped them out, you would just have to radius the edges . Now to make these would be a dock yard job plus a lot of waste, but i'm thing about it.
