The current project is a 5" gauge LMS Jubilee to Tony Alcock's Galatea design. This is my first venture into 5" (coming down a gauge from 7 1/4"). Could anybody who is currently building, or has built one of these models, or knows anybody that owns this model please contact me via email? Thank-you.

I have a friend who's been building an Allcock Jubilee for some years now. The drawings are quite detailed and prototypical, but he has had to do a fair amount of checking as one or two dimensions don't seem to tie up, so be careful.
One thing you might want to consider before you cut any metal, is what back-to-back dimension you are going to work to for the wheelsets. Allcock shows 4.5/8" which is what LBSC worked to, but the accepted standard has been 4.11/16" for a long time now. Martin Evans, Don Young and Doug Hewson to name but a few, all work/worked to the latter dimension.
If you ever want to run on a ground level railway laid to GL5 standards, you might find that 4.5/8" gives problems with check rails.

hi I have an alcock design jubilee built in the early 90's by a member of the burton club. what do you want to know about. you should note that this is a cmplicated design with lots of tricky bits and will take you at least 2000 - 2500 hours to build. terry

Thank you Superseven for that advice. However, when I took on the project, the wheelsets were already complete. I will measure them to check next time I am in the workshop. So far the Jubilee consists of a complete tender chassis, a two-thirds complete loco chassis and a boiler complete with fittings. Hours are not so much a problem a4builder, but what I would like to know is how the tender tanks on your loco were constructed? Tony Alcock states that a kit form tank sprayed with cellulose is suitable? Is this solid enough to sit on or would you suggest the mode tradional tank building methods?
